First Flight is a Texas 501(c)(3) non-profit that was formed to bring awareness to the Stephen F. Austin State University Aviation Program and the Flying Jacks. First Flight is also on a mission to raise awareness and share opportunities in aerospace and aviation with our K-12 youth. The First Flight team believes that our youth are the most valuable, yet most neglected resource we have, and we must do more to bridge and expose our youth to the world of opportunities that exist.

Each of our Flying Jacks students will undergo 5 FAA check rides throughout their flight training to obtain each of their pilot ratings. These check rides are not only rigorous, but also quite expensive, costing approximately $1,200 for each ride. To help reduce the stress and financial burden of these check rides, First Flight helps cover the costs for the students.

First Flight continues to expose youth in the region to opportunities in aerospace and aviation by hosting them at the HCH facilities. This allows them to spend time with the Flying Jacks and our flight instructors. The students will also have opportunities to test their flying skills on one of our state-of-the-art simulators or in the cockpit of one of our advanced aircraft.
